The primary purpose of the Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course (WRFA) is to provide individuals a foundation of first aid knowledge and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care in areas that do not have immediate emergency medical services (EMS) response, such as wilderness and remote environments. In this course our crew members developed leadership skills and learned how to help, prevent, plan for, and respond to emergencies.

Successful course completion required participation in 16-hours of course activities and skill sessions. Many practice sessions required strenuous outdoor physical activity, including transporting patients across uneven terrain, and responding to training scenarios outside, regardless of the snowy and cold weather.
